Planting · Northeast Ohio

How we do it

Every design starts with the site: how much sun the area gets, how water drains, and how the bed will look from the street and from inside the house. From there we lay out bed lines, choose plants that are hardy in our climate, and space them with room to fill in.

Whether you want a low-maintenance foundation planting or a bed full of color, we plan for how it will look a few years from now, not only on planting day.

Common questions

Flower Bed Design FAQ

Can you redo an existing bed instead of starting new?

Yes. Many of our planting projects are renovations: removing overgrown or dead plants, reshaping the edges, and replanting with varieties better suited to the spot.

What plants do well in Northeast Ohio?

Hardy perennials like coneflower, daylily, hosta, and catmint do well here, along with shrubs such as hydrangea, boxwood, and spirea. The best choice depends on your sun, soil, and how much upkeep you want.

When can new flower beds be planted?

Planting runs from spring through early fall. Spring and early fall are ideal, since cooler temperatures give new plants time to root in.
