A good mulch job starts before any mulch goes down. We pull weeds, clear out old debris, and cut a clean edge between the lawn and the bed. Mulch is then spread evenly, typically two to three inches deep, and kept pulled back from tree trunks and your home's foundation.
Applied correctly, mulch holds moisture in the soil, suppresses weeds, and protects roots through Ohio's temperature swings. Most of our customers have their beds refreshed every spring.
Common questions
Spring is the most popular time, once beds are cleaned up and perennials are starting to emerge. Fall mulching also works well and helps insulate roots over the winter.
That depends on the size of your beds and how much old mulch is still in place. We measure during the estimate and quote the full job, so you don't have to calculate yardage yourself.
Not always. If the existing layer is thin, we top-dress over it. If mulch has built up too deep over the years, we remove some so the new layer doesn't smother roots.
